Little League Mayhem?
Youth Baseball: Little League Mayhem?
by Guest Author Will G. Stone
For many of us, summer means spending time outdoors. If you have kids, then it may mean Little League Baseball. I am a firm believer in kids taking part in sports and recreation because it gets them out from in front of the TV and computer and gets them active! A day at the ball park can be a very enjoyable time! Who doesn't love snacking on popcorn and rooting on the kids?
A growing problem at many events is parents who do not know their boundaries. You know the type: they think that they are God's gift to the sport and that the coaches have no idea what they are talking about. They also feel the need to bombard their child and other players with "tips" and "pointers" during the game. Admit it, it drives us all crazy. It is annoying and ruins an otherwise pleasant outing. What can you do about this?
The first thing is to be an example by knowing your boundaries. Honor the authority figures of the event. We teach our children to respect authority, right? We must set the example by allowing the coaches and umpires to do their job. Sure, we may not agree with everything they do, but no one wants to hear our constant criticism either. Come to grips with the fact that you have no control over the game, eat popcorn, and relax.
The second thing we can do is to let our kids have their time. Baseball is a game. It is meant to be fun! Kids cannot have fun when they are receiving "tips" and criticism from many people during the game. This makes them nervous and is counterproductive. Let the kids be kids! Let them play and make mistakes. After all, the outcome of the game is not life or death! Let them enjoy the experience.
The third thing is to boldly confront those around you who do not follow these guidelines. I am not talking about an argument. Speak to the "offending" parent/fan and remind them that it is only a game and to relax. Let them know that they are causing many people not to enjoy themselves by their constant outbursts.
The fourth thing is to love and support your kid's coach. They are spending lots of time with your kid and they may be a very positive influence in their life. Be encouraging and be sure to say thank you every now and then.
Last, but not least, praise your kid! Whether they win or lose, be there to support them. The kid usually knows if they played well or not, so be positive. Take them to their favorite restaurant or surprise them with a treat. Hug them and let them know that you love them and you are proud of them. One more thing: the summertime heat can be miserable. Stay properly hydrated. I hope you and your family enjoy our national pastime! Have a great summer! God bless you.

Backyard Baseball Drills
Backyard Baseball Drills
Posted on YouTube by LNersesian
The Youth Sports Club is a leading producer of sports instructional videos and DVDs. Produced by Coach Marty Schupak, This video has been called "the most creative sports instructional video ever made." Coach Schupak takes household items and puts them to use as props for baseball drills. Instead of spending $200.00 for a baseball hitting net, coach Schupak shows how to make something equivalent for under $20.00. Other items such as cinder blocks, bricks, a bathroom plunger and believe or not, a dozen eggs make "Backyard Baseball Drills" a true baseball lover's delight. Great practice ideas that kids and adults will love. For more information on how to purchase any of these titles, visit: www.youthsportsclub.com

T Ball Rules and Regulations - Learn the Game!
Tee Ball Rules and Regulations - Parents Learn the Game!
By Guest Author Adam Niebs
T ball rules and regulations are fun and easy to learn! T-Ball is a sport based on baseball and is as an introduction for kids to develop baseball skills and have a good time. The ball (softer than a regular baseball) is placed on an adjustable tee atop the home plate at the proper height for the batter to strike. Most of the other rules are similar or identical to those of baseball, though the game is played on a smaller field. The positions that see the most action in t ball are the pitcher and first base, followed by the rest of the infield positions.
In most parts of the country, T ball is a sport children play before they progress to coach-pitch baseball. Players learn the basic concepts of the sport of baseball while they play T ball and get their first baseball experience of being part of a team. The t ball rules and regulations are devised to teach kids the principles of baseball before they are coordinated enough to hit and catch.
Games are usually four innings and scoring is not always used since it is to develop baseball hitting skills and learn other baseball training. Everyone participates and every player gets to bat and play in the field. Because everyone gets to hit each inning and everyone gets to play the field each game, the whole process is fair and no one gets left out. Parent participation is highly encouraged at practices and games.
In many leagues, score is not kept and rules are designed to maximize participation. An inning is completed once each child has had a turn at bat and all extra players of the defensive team play in the outfield every inning. It teaches them how to throw to base and throw to home. Ultimately their skills will become more advanced. Parents are encouraged to learn t ball rules and regulations because they are often used as umpires. You can watch your child and have fun coaching at the same time.
Playing T-Ball is a way for your child to keep active and have some fun. Being on a team is an opportunity for children to feel like they belong. The whole idea of T ball is to teach players baseball hitting techniques and the other skills they will need as they advance into playing the more difficult game of baseball.
A great way for your child to learn the t ball rules and regulations is by using the Little Tikes T Ball Set. This all in one kit is the best tool for your little slugger to begin learning. This set is an awesome introductory to the game of T Ball!

Teaching Youth Baseball Rules and Skills to Your Child

Baseball games are sports events that you would love to watch. How the game is played gives you unexplained excitement and thrill. The object of baseball is to score more runs than the opposition and the strategy lies in the continuous struggle between the offense and the defense. If you want to teach your child how to play baseball and enjoy quality time with him through sports then you can do it with the help of the information on the basic skills of this game.
Basically, in throwing, the ball is usually gripped with the thumb on one side and the index and middle fingers on the opposite side. The pressure of the fingers on the ball must be relatively equal to the amount of force of the throw. There are three types of throw, overhead throw, side throw and underarm throw. They vary based on the distance of the person throwing the ball and the person who will catch it. Not only is distance important in using tazer stun gun but it is also critical in this kind of game.
To catch a low throw, you must teach your child to reach with the glove on the ground opposite his body. If your kid for instance wants to be an outfielder, you must instill in his mind to learn how to judge the flight of the ball and get under it fast. The ball must be kept in front at all times. When an outfielder is running back to catch a long fly, his head should be turned once or twice to spot the ball and the fingers are pointed upwards. As a catcher, you must have a good view of your target which is the flying ball just like when you need to have an eye of your assailant when you need to discharge the probes of your tazer gun.
Moreover, pitching involves the windup, the delivery, and the follow-through to ensure control. The purpose of the windup is to produce a smooth and natural delivery of the pitch. After delivery, as a pitcher, he should face the plate squarely in order to be in good position to field any ball hit. You must teach your child also about the strike zone which is directly above the plate, between the batter's armpits and his knees.
Lastly, you must teach your kid about how to hit the ball. A good batting requires that the entire body be poised with utmost ease and effect. You can be the pitcher and let your son hold the baseball equipment which is the bat. While waiting for the pitch, you must teach your child to place his body weight on the balls of the feet, with hips, shoulders and eyes level and bat high. Upon the pitch, let your kid whip the ball with loose arm action and snap of wrists and the two hands firmly holding the bat the entire swing.
The successful process of learning and developing the skills involved in baseball will depend on constant participation and proper attitude. You can develop the interest of your child in this kind of play by proper motivation and slowly teaching him the basic skills and baseball rules.

How to Play Kids' Sports Safely
How to Play Youth Sports Safely
By Guest Author John Myre
Most kids are going to play organized sports, but they aren't always aware of the potential for injury. Accept that fact. However, that doesn't mean adults can't be involved in making play as safe as possible for our enthusiastic young athletes. Here are some tips to help make games fun and painless.
A Set Of Helpful Standards
The National Alliance For Youth Sports has developed the following standards for parents in developing and administering youth sports for children. Involved parents should:
* Consider and carefully choose the proper environment for their child, including the appropriate age and development for participation, the type of sport, the rules in the sport, the age range of the participants, and the proper level of physical and emotional stress.
* Select youth programs that are developed and organized to enhance the emotional, physical, social and educational well-being of children.
* Encourage a drug, tobacco and alcohol-free environment.
* Recognize that youth sports are only a small part of a child's life.
* Insist that coaches be trained and certified.
* Make a serious effort to take an active role in the youth sports experience of their child.
* Be a positive role model exhibiting sportsmanlike behavior at games, practices, and home, and give positive reinforcement to their child and support to the coaches.
* Demonstrate a commitment to their child's youth sports experience by annually signing a parental code of ethics.
Keeping Sports Fun
* If you decide to let your child play on a "Select" team, recognize that your child may face additional pressures, and you may need to take steps to keep sports at that level in perspective.
* While virtually all coaches want to make sports an enjoyable activity for kids, there are a few coaches who will use their position to exploit children. Following are questions for parents suggested by the Florida branch of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children:
1. Does the organization do a background check on coaches?
2. What is the coach's philosophy about winning and sportsmanship?
3. Are there other adults who supervise off-site travel?
4. Do children use a locker room to dress, and are there multiple adults present in the locker room when children are using it?
5. Do you as a parent have input into the sporting activity?
6. Does the coach promise to make your child a champion player, or want to spend time alone with your child outside of scheduled activities?
7. Do you as a parent talk to your child about how he or she likes the coach or the sport?
Where Does It Hurt?
In every sport there is a risk of injury. To reduce the risk:
* Take your child for a complete physical exam before taking part in any sport. Some children have serious physical conditions that can be aggravated by exertion.
* Become educated on the possible injuries that can occur in the sport. Talk with a sports medicine doctor or trainer to develop a fitness plan, and to get guidelines on preventing overuse injuries.
* Begin conditioning exercises before the season begins.
* Make sure your child has good equipment that fits well.
* Use eye guards and mouth guards for high-risk sports.
* Don't ignore pain. If a child says something hurts, see a sports medicine doctor.
* Buy a book on sports medicine and keep it handy. It will help you treat minor injuries at home. It will also help you oversee your child's general physical condition.
* Insist on safe playing facilities, healthful playing situations, and proper first aid applications.
* Know the answer to these questions: Where is the nearest hospital? How would I get there in an emergency? Who can I call for immediate attention if my child is injured?
* A trainer, parent or coach trained in CPR, and access to a telephone, should be available near the playing field.
* Children are especially vulnerable to overuse injuries because of the softness of their growing bones and the relative tightness of their ligaments and tendons during growth spurts. One way to avoid overuse injuries is to never increase intensity, duration, frequency or distance by more than 10 percent a week.
* Watch the weather. Heat illness can occur when it's hotter than 85 degrees with a humidity of 70 percent or more.
* Make sure your child drinks enough water during a sporting contest. If a child asks for water, give it to him or her. Their body is sending an important signal.
